Sean's Little World
I figured I would attempt to go a little creative writing tonight and see where it takes me. Well I wrote a paragraph and didnt like the whole direction that we were sailing (it had a pirate theme and lebron was the parrot my my shoulder...needless to say didn't like it). So back to my ramblings...
What is up with this new phenomona on facebook with the "25 things list"? God damn people are such sheep. They saw 7 out of 10 people are stupid, and I think thats being awful kind. Jesus, let me paste this right now for myself to look back and shake my head (among thousands of other things in my life)... "Rules:
Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you."
Who the fuck started this and how did it pick up? random things about me? A: I don't like you. facts? read a fucking book morons, habits? making fun of sheep. goals? Fuck you. I make fun of these people because they deserve to be made fun of. I have been tagged in some of these and am tempted to make an extremely derogatory one. I won't do it because that would be a waste of time and energy for some stupid list that has to stop. This is the future of the world right here folks. People making a top 25 list about themselves because other people want to know more about them? Come on. I wish we could have a top 25 list of what they actually think about the people that tagged them. I can gaurentee that over 75% of the people tagged the author thinks ill towards, in someway or another. But keep it up friends, I do enjoy reading them, and laughing, and reading some more. Well that came out of nowhere, but i feel like I had to say it because I just don't get where this list idea popped up.
So I went to barnes and noble today to get out of the house because it was being shown and I am looking at a book on the new books shelf. It was a jack kerous and william burroughs book that was only recently published, but was written in the late 40's. About 5 seconds after I pick it up a lady next to me says "i want that, but am going to wait until it comes out in paperback." I look at her (she is about 2 feet to my left) where her eyes would be on her head and she is just looking straight at the books. I didn't say shit and keep looking at her and realize either a. this chick wanted me to say something or b. this chick was just talking to herself and being an annoying person at the book store. I looked at her again and put the book down. The moral of the story...make sure someone is truly talking to you before you look away from the summary on the book flap.
I'm going to start to learn spanish via the tapes/mp3. I'm just gonna load them on my sansa clip and listen to them. I don't expect to become fluent, but I do expect to start to pick up phrases and thats really all I need at this point in my life. Eventually I will be fluent in Spanish hopefully. Then I can go to the Caribbean and being my life as canteen boy for a cute little Caribbean piece.
Tom's girlfriend Jamie wants me to meet one of her "adorable" friends next weekend. I am skeptic at anyone who is referred to by one of their own as "adorable". Hey maybe its a puppy!? Since I am light on friends with female genatalia these days I might just go hang out. Of course I would go and then 2 minutes after meeting miss "adorable" I would be asking myself why I would ever say yes to anything like that. I do kinda want to go out on valentine's day and go to white castle. What a night that would be. SO there is comedy in that, and thats really what I'm all about, because as we all know; Its all bullshit. If I am lucky maybe this girl is employed and then I can just mooch off her. Jamie is cool though, but she dates tom, so that kinda puts her back at even (went up 3 points for being cool, down 3 for dating tom. It just isn't fair). Of course you and me both know I probably will come up with some great excuse like "I have to work in the morning" or "I have church in the morning". Ahh Sean you rock...at nothing. Hi Jamie! (I know tom will send her a link so I give shout outs to new readers) While I am at it Hi Rachel (potential new reader).
I don't have this blog posted on my facebook because I dont want randoms seeing my stuff. Maybe someday I will open up and let all the little trolls read, but not anytime soon. I'll put my running blog on facebook. That will probably just get into me getting angry at stupid stuff like this has become. Ok too much negetive, I'm going positive for a minute.
I love reading books. I am in the middle of many, but just started another, because fuck it thats why. The most recent book I started last night was KILL BIN LADEN ( http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Kill-Bin-Laden/Dalton-Fury/e/9780312384395/?itm=1) and it is a badass book about the hunt for bin laden at tora bora. I obviously have a boner for military books (almost finished with house to house http://search.barnesandnoble.com/House-to-House/David-Bellavia/e/9781416546979/?itm=1 which is a crazy book about the battle for fallujah in iraq.). These books are great and recommend them to anyone that enjoys reading. Reading is so old school. Tv shows are amazing, but books are so underrated. While in Barnes and noble today is struck me as to how many books there are that are published. So many books I pick up and want to read. It is a little overwhelming, but it is a good overwhelming. Books engage me so much more that TV or movies for the fact that so much more time is invested into one book. I picked up Jenna Jameson's book today (How to have sex like a porn star) and just started reading it and skimming. There was some damn interesting stuff about that crazy whore. I don't know if I would read her book, but I do know that it would be damn good. All I'm saying is that the book club is going to start this year. This is the year that my book club gets off the ground! We will need to come up with what the first book will be (should go small like goodnight moon or the cat and the hat and work out way up) and then have a nice little discussion. I think that is the best part about books; Looking for the underlying themes, foreshadowing, trying to figure out the author's motives. All that stuff is so fun to do. Most people are a little buts and authors are about 100X nuts, yet so incredible. I am not excited. I'm going to read. See you soon pals. What a terrible rambling post! These will get better, I promise.
You can't make this up. Just found this on digg. Glad I am not alone... http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1877187,00.html?iid=digg_share

chalmskin
I went running on Saturday after I got home from house sitting at Jan's for the final time (already waiting for another place to go, man my house is depressing) and it was truly amazing. It was about 40 degrees when I started running. Being that it was later in the day, the temp definitely dropped a little and the wind chill could definitely be felt. I had shorts on and a dri-fit long sleeve shirt with a half-zip fleece over it (also wore my badass army hat, thanks pops! . The weather felt awesome and I really wished that it was mid-late march, but it was obviously the end of january. I have mentioned previously that I signed up for a marathon in June in Duluth, MN. I have not run since October, and really have no done much active stuff (especially cardio) since running in the fall. My run on Saturday was definitely a wake-up call to myself. I am starting to wonder what I got myself into. I ran for about 3.6 miles and was a little tired afterward. The feeling after wasn't the problem, thats always the best part. It was the feeling I got sunday morning. The "jesus my legs should not be this sore" feeling when getting out of bed. Today I had the same feeling. The hamstrings were very tight and sore, as were the glutes, and quads. This isn't a feeling that is foreign to me. I used to always be used to it when I would be trying to get fit for soccer. It is always a bummer when it comes though and you feel like you are going to die. The good news is that that part is out of the way. The bad news is I have a feeling that training for the marathon (official training starts 2 week from tomorrow (tuesday the 17th). I am thinking about possibly making a new blog to keep track of my training for the marathon i.e. tracking daily the runs, temp, distance, thoughts, etc. I guess I could just do it here. Maybe I will go back to my livejournal and write it there. That way it separates work and play. "But Sean which is work and which is play?" good question optimistic side of head, lets just leave that answer for another time. Like I have said before I am excited to run it just for the challenge, thats the main reason why I'm doing it. I guess losing some weight (which is nice) comes with that fact, but I could just run 3 miles daily and lose weight. I'm doing this solely for the challenge and for the mental toughness. Its all mental, like most things in life.
I would still love for someone to join me in running (other than allie, but technically she was already doing it with her friend, so forget her). Tom I am glaring at you right now, I am directing this straight at you. Run this with me. I got bad intel on the sign up and apparently it usually is full by late march, not mid february like I heard from someone. So, considering that, and the fact that you are already in good shape it should be fine for you. All that running could cook up ideas in your head about the literature that you are reading these days. It was freezing today and will be chilly for the next few days, but then we get mid 20's and low 30's which is weather that sounds amazing (wooo minnesotans ftw!!).
Trivia tonight was fun as chalmskin. We took 2nd and won 50 free wings. The team of andy, lindsay, tyler, courtney, chris, illman, and myself. The music round fucking killed us and we ended up losing by a point. Still respectable though. First place takes $100 cash so that point was definitely a big one. No worrying though because we will be back and will conquer that trivia and move onto the next place that wants to get a lesson in what it means to be a pop culture whore and have friends that are just as pathetic (or as we look at it amazing). Good job tonight team, made me proud of all the contributions from everyone. No dead weight, which is always nice.
Superbowl on sunday somehow turned out to be a solid game. It didnt really matter because the people who I was around made it a fun game anyway. All the jokes and silly banter that you should come to expect around the new shl (chris photo album reference?!?) were there. I am sorry I didn't stay for rumplestilskin (sp), but fucketh me I was tired and kinda drained after I didn't get to see the John wayne Gacy raped any boys in Gacy (wiki it if you don't know who he is). I feel like my posts need to be a little better done. Next time I come at you I think I will talk about some podcasts that I have been repping lately and also a little on the tv front. Its almost quarter to 3 though and I am tired. Without further ado I'm going old school with some pictures from about 3-4 years ago. Some would call classics, I would call them antiques. An fyi that I do have about 150 pictures on my camera from the last year. Those will be put on my computer whenever I buy it, which may (10%) or may not(90%) be soon. Cheers, enjoy the pics. See you around!
About 10 days after I tore my knee up... A little drunk
one of my alltime favorite pics. Summer 2005 at bobs lake house on the sandbar
Come on tom run with me!!

so sexy
hope everything is going well with the pregnancy dude! seriously, I hope its going well
I promise to start incorporating more picture into my posts coming up

Day 6
So I slacked on days 4 and 5, but not too much happened. I went to trivia Monday night at buffalo wild wings in chanhassen. Man I sure do love trivia. I honestly look forward to 20 years down the road when I am an absolute god at pop-culture trivia. It will be so fucking amazing. Now I kinda feel that I am a little aprentice. It really is just a great way to go with your friends, have some drinks, some laughs, and try and beat people. Its also about pop-culture, which is the greatest thing ever. I wasn't wavering from television, movies, etc. one bit, but going to trivia reaffirms my belief that those who don't watch a lot of television or movies are wrong. After all that talking up how much I love trivia I don't know if I will make it out to hopkins tomorrow night. I plan on going to the gophers game so depending when that gets out we will see if I can make it to hopkins or not.
**********************************************************************************
Continued at 2:50 pm on Friday originally started on Wednesday night.
Went to the gophers basketball game last night and had a blast. It was such a terrible game in the first half. Yikes it was gross. We (Andy, Molly, Dave, myself) sat in the upper level (is it even a deck??) in the corner. I enjoyed the location of the seats. The only bad seats in the barn are obstructed and these weren't obstructed so they were great. They were bleachers made for giants. I felt like a little kid when my toes barely could reach the ground. Because of that my back was killing me. No big deal with the frequent tv time outs for me to stand and stretch me back. The architect of those bleachers though had to be at least 6'3" and getting back at shorter people who made him sit in shitty like seats at all other sporting events. The gophers won by a lot, 24 maybe? My boy Trav Busch got some garbage time, but didnt shoot an open 3. Trav the NBA scouts like gunners, not passers. You sir, are a gunner! I must say the defense of the gophers is very impressive. The team is young and only going to get better. The offense will come with time and colt 45 and the emotionless monster ralphie sampson III are ballers.
Unfortunately this is my last day here at Jan's. It has definitely been enjoyable to have a place to my own and just hanging with wink (always sleeps at the foot of my bed which brings me back to high school with my girl maizy) and just chilling. I found an internship to apply for at general mills yesterday so I did that. I'm not holding my breath but we shall see.
I dont have plans this weekend. My pops gets into town tonight so I will talk with him about some different things and other than that watch the gophers play mankato tonight and tomorrow (still not sure why they had last week off), watch the wolves play a tough lakers and celtics squad, and finish with some superbowl sunday in which I am not particularly excited at all (never am for the superbowl, unless the jets or vikings are there which, I should ad, has never happened in my lifetime) but, hopefully it is a good game. That is all I can ask.
I hope to go on an adventure soon. Any type of adventure, a car adventure, a walking adventure. I just want to go on some adventure. I'll need to talk to the people who are around and see if a midnight adventure could be done sometime soon. They always turn out to be fun. Maybe it should just be spontaneous though. It always seems that planned things never live up to hype because there is always a sense of expectations that goes along with the planning aspect. I guess I will just need to wait for the time when an adventure presents itself and jump at the opportunity. That is all from northeast. I will be back sometime soon, early next week I'm thinking. Cheers friends

Day 3
Well day 3 is coming to a close and not too much is new here. Wink the cat is such an awesome cat. If i go to sleep I wake up with him at my feet. If I am watching tv he comes and lays on my stomach. What a cool, affectionate cat. I should bring the devil jessi over here and let Wink show her how to behave to people who love her.
I have watched the first season of oz and it is a solid show. I'm still waiting for it to get really good, but the character development is definitely unique in the sense that they are prisoners and trying to make it one day at a time.
The sags where tonight. 30 rock killed it again. I don't understand that at all. Alec Baldwin is not funnier than steve carroll. He just isn't, it is as simple as that. 30 rock isn't more funny than the office either. I'm considering just stopping with 30 rock all together. I love tracy morgan though because he is insane. It does piss me off that everyone thinks it is the greatest show ever. Well guess what? It isn't, done and done.
I have started to listen to podcasts. I has listened to bill simmons bs report on and off since it commenced. This past fall I started listening to Stuff you should know which is very informative about all different kinds of enjoyable topics such as "how to live off the grid", "how delta force works", "the best place to get shot", etc. The dudes who do it are cool and seem like they have the greatest jobs ever, probably because they do. I just started listening to "This American Life" which is from Chicago publicradio and hosted by a dude named ira glass. The first episode i listened to was right before the inaugeration so i was already a little obama'ed out, but it held my attention for an hour from their different interviews with average people and also an interesting look at a company that started manufacturing both candidates (mccain and obama) shit back in the spring and how they grew from 5 employees to 500. Obviously now they just have obama shit and are letting people go everyday. It is supposed to be a good little snapshot of america, and since I love america more than most I figured that I would become a listener.
On tap for tonight/tomorrow is watch some oz, listen to some aussie open on the comp (no espn2 here) and possibly watch some my name is earl. Does anyone else watch that show? I feel like it is a show that people just don't watch even though it is very enjoyable. I can find joy in many things though, so maybe it isn't that good. I will say if ethan supplie's character Randy can;t make you laugh then give up on life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtI_lPIWwzk i love you randy.
Well that is all from basecamp alpha. If you are ever in northeast come and visit me, as that is where seanslittleworld is posted up right now. Cheers friends!

Day 1
So it is early Saturday morning and -9 out. Jesus it is frigid. I just got in from Chris and ills house that they are house sitting for until June. No disrespect to them, but I feel that the house that I am managing has much more to offer. Great location, ummm ummm ok their house is rather incredible. I like Jan's little house but the thing that they are in is out of this world. Wow how some people live is crazy.
Anyway things are going well in Northeast. Wink the cat is a friendly kitty who enjoys being pet and sleeping on my feet so there is no complaints about that. I have watch 4 episodes of Oz so far and it is very engaging and interesting. It also instills in me what I have believed for a good while now; I never ever ever want to end up in jail. Yikes that is a scary thought. I really cannot wait until March and it getting warmer. This cold weather is really not working. That is all for now. I need some sleep, but not before an episode of Oz of course. Cheers friends!

Change is here!!
This isn't a political post, i just needed to start with some thoughts...
Well I guess change is here. We have a new, young president who happens to be black and has two adorable daughters and according to Gallup polls some crazy number like 73% of people who think he can make a difference. That's a little funny because bush had a 23% approval rating when he left office. So basically those polls flipped which I find a funny. Blacks are going crazy that there is a black man who is now the leader of the free world and now everything will be fixed in this cruel world for blacks and minorities because Obama has the power and means to help every black person in this country. I am happy he won, but I'm not an idiot. Politics are politics and I am extremely cautious about what the future holds. It seems like people are in such a dreamworld that the end of our problems are here now that he is in office. Hopefully he will live up to a little bit of his hype and change some policies such as stem cell research, climate change, and get out of Iraq. That's really all I'm hoping for. Other than that we shall see. I do enjoy watching him speak because he does have a massive presence and is very charismatic. I hope he does well, but I'll believe it when I see it.
back to your regularly scheduled post...
I start a house sitting stint on Thursday at Tom's mom's house in northeast Minneapolis. She is going to Kyle's wedding until the following Saturday and asked if I could house sit for her. I jumped at the opportunity because first and foremost it is Jan and she is extremely nice and always awesome, second it was a chance to keep wink (cat) company while she was at the wedding, and third it is a chance to know what it is like to live in Minneapolis for 10 days. I went over on Saturday afternoon to go over what I needed to do and all that stuff and most of the stuff is rather basic. She has a cat, cable TV, Internet, and heat. There isn't much more I could ask for. Maybe people could come over and hang if they want. I know its a little bit of a drive, but whatever. I'll be close to Andres so that will be cool.
Jan also informed me that she found a job at work (works at north memorial hospital as a nurse) that was for a surgical assistant that sterilizes surgical utensils and stuff like that, but that it requires a 6 week course at mctc to get the job. That sounds like a sweet job to me, but its lame that I would need to take a class. I find it funny that with a 6 week course I could get a job at a hospital that pays rather decent, but with a 4 year college degree and over $16000 in student loans I can't find shit. I have started to think of some other options because it seems this Minnesota option isn't working out like I hoped it would.
1. Applying to officer candidate school for the air force to try and become a pilot. I am not sure if I would get accepted for medical reasons, but being a pilot is something that I would love to do, and the military has intrigued me since I was young and would go to west point with my dad. I need to talk to a recruiter, but am a little apprehensive because once I give my phone number I would get calls nonstop. The candidate school is a 12 week long course and is supposedly very tough to get into, but it would be worth a try.
2. I have also looked at different federal agencies such as the u.s. marshalls, the FBI, DEA, AFT, secret service, etc. Much like the military, law enforcement on the federal level seems like something that would be enjoyable to do.
3. I have talked to Bob about possibly moving out with him (to California) for a little bit to try and look for a job and enjoy the nice weather while I am still young and have nothing holding me back (see: no girl, no kids, no jail, no job). I think about this more and more as it would be something totally different from where I have been and living on the beach sounds amazing. Plus my dad is already out there and mom will be out there soon enough. I would not want to live with them, but having them within an hours drive is not a bad situation.
4. Go back to school to get a graduate degree and just take out college loans so I will have years and years to pay them off. I haven't really put much thought into this because I would have stayed at FDU if I wanted to still be in school. I am sick of school though. I don't feel like going back to school and paying a shitload of money again.
5. Kick footballs in the NFL. Another dream of mine that I think could possibly happen if the right things happen. One of Gary Anderson's good friends who he went to school with in south Africa was my soccer coach and I really need to call him up and se whats with that. I have his number, i just haven't done it yet. Obviously kicking a football is something that would be amazing.
I just signed up for a marathon that is June 20 in Duluth. I needed a challenge in my life and I thought that running a marathon is a nice challenge to start with. I eventually want to do a triathlon and then an iron man, but we will start nice and conservative with 26.2 miles. I'm a little jealous that Andres did this 2 years ago. You are a champ my friend. It is a staggering number when you look at it 26.2 miles. (insert Morgan freeman narration from shawshank) "that's just over 419 football fields". If Andy dufrene could do this (freeman voice again): "Andy crawled to freedom through five hundred yards of shit smelling foulness I can't even imagine, or maybe I just don't want too. Five hundred yards... that's the length of five football fields, just shy of half a mile." Then running 26.2 really isn't that bad right? Right!? I'm once again cautiously optimistic. I guess that's how I live my life these days. Some people would call me a pessimist. You know what I say to that? Fuck em! Allie is running it with me (actually she was running it with a girl from school when I told her I was running it, but whatever it will be nice to at least see someone before and after the race (gonna beat her ass during it though! sub 2:15 here I come bitches!) and have her to talk to for the next 4-5 months of training and someone to relate to). I tried to talk tom into doing it, but I don't think he is. I can't blame him since he is in school and in a party environment. That would be tough to wake up on weekends and go run anywhere from 13-20 miles, let alone training during the week too. Does not sound fun, but someday Tommer we will run one together.
I'm going to start keeping a training log either on this blog or just make a new one so I can track progress and different stuff like that.
I am also going to start as of Thursday a little journal for my house sitting stint.
*****************************************************************
(Thursday night 6:45pm central)
I took a break Tuesday night when I was writing my blog and then I never got back to it until now. You know how busy I am researching so many different things for work and school and my future. anyway where was I? ahhh yes...
So I will start a house sitting mini journal/blog for the next 10 days or so. I have the complete series of OZ and will hope to watch all of that and I have 3-4 books that I will have with me: I am America anso can You! By Stephen C., A Pirate looks at Fifty by Jimmy Buffet, Dewey by some lady, and why we suck by Tommy Gavin er Dennis Leary. I am in the middle of all these books so I should be able to finish mos, if not all of them over the next week and a half. Hey I guess I'll bring On The Road by Jack Kerouac just for Tyler and the hopes that our book club can start up this year.
I saw slum dog millionaire the other day and I thought that it was such a damn good/clever/entertaining movie. An awesome montage featuring "Paper Planes" is on there and it is extremely sweet. I recommend the movie to anyone though. It has some great humor and also shows the life of a boy growing up in a slum in India.
I ended last year reading about 7 books in the fall alone. I forgot how much I enjoyed reading and how much books make you use your imagination. A few books I hope to read soon are "Team of Rivals" a book about Lincoln's cabinet because of how he basically put everyone who talked shit about him on the campaign trail in his cabinet which turned out being one of, if not, the best presidency in history. I also look forward to reading "American Lion" which is about Andrew Jackson and how crazy smart he was. If you haven't known by now I kind of enjoy history, especially American history.
Well we got trivia tonight at the main street tavern in Hopkins. I would enjoy if this turned into a weekly thing with my friends. Its always fun competing in anything and the chance to win money/gift certificates from pop culture trivia is just a bonus. Hopefully we can be top 3 tonight, but honestly other than 1st is bullshit. So lets take it home fellas.
I will try and post more this year. I look forward to this year like every other year. The unknown is great, although is can be overwhelming and frustrating its still enjoyable. I'll see you from Tom's mom's house tomorrow. Bye friends
-Sean
p.s. I'm in love with The Veronicas.
here is a little treat to the 2-5 people that will visit this. One of the many amazing bits from the late george carlin...
